BISS Puxi Mathematicians Rank in Top 50 Worldwide

28 May 2015

We are proud to say that 11 of our top performing students in the UK Intermediate Mathematical Challenge were invited to take part in the International ‘Kangaroo’ Mathematical Challenge, and another five had the opportunity to take part in the UK Intermediate Mathematical Olympiad last month.

The Kangaroo is a follow on contest for students from countries all around the world. The UK Mathematics Trust organises it as a next step on from the Intermediate Mathematical Challenge. It is a more challenging 1 hour multiple choice paper.

The Intermediate Olympiad is much more challenging still and at a higher level. The students attempt six full questions requiring written solutions, reasoning and proof and the time allowed is 2 hours.

Congratulations to Jack McGeehan in Year 10 who achieved a Merit certificate from the Kangaroo, Woohyun Hwang and Jeong Gyeom Brian Kim in Year 9 who achieved Merit certificates in the Olympiad and Jinheon Choi who achieved a Distinction certificate and a medal from the Olympiad.

However, the most notable awards go to Zieho Choi in Year 10 and Ragyeom Kelly Kim in Year 11. Both students achieved a distinction certificate, medal and book prize in the Olympiad. This ranks each student in the top 50 of their respective year groups worldwide and an outstanding achievement for them both.

All the students who were invited to sit these challenging papers are listed below. Congratulations to them all and we look forward to seeing more great results from our BISS Puxi mathematicians.
