Computer Programming in Year 6

22 June 2015

Last week in Computer Programming and Digital Literacy Year 6 focussed on computer programming using the Mindstorm software and robotics.

  • Year 6 students at the British International School Shanghai, learn about computer programming
  • Year 6 students at the British International School Shanghai, learn about computer programming

Children worked collaboratively in groups to set functional programmes for their robots to follow more and more complex commands in order to complete tasks.

Stage 1: Time trial racing – two laps of a race track, best time wins.

Stage 2: Monster on the loose – knocking down items

Stage 3: Park the car – everyone’s driving nightmare, the reverse park

Stage 4: Self designed obstacle course – free for all programme-fest.

The children were terrifically engaged in this activity and working well together to overcome challenges and achieve meaningful outcomes: a wonderful week of learning and fun.
