This year we have added a number of events to our busy calendar including an additional drama production for KS3; moreover the Garden Party has been added as an annual event. I also look forward to sharing with you news of further collaborations with high profile partner organisations.
I am delighted to be able to report that over the course of the summer the campus has been a hive of activity and that we have been able to complete an ambitious development, refurbishment and redecoration programme. The most visible changes are the new security arrangements on the main gates and I will be writing in more detail with reference to campus security in the next few days. We have also added a number of new specialist learning spaces including a second computing science suite, a green screen film room, a science learning space, an IB art studio and a new additional outdoor classroom area for Early Years. The IB Academy and Early Years Cubs Department have also been refurbished and redecorated and we have further increased the provision of shade in the Early Years and KS1 playgrounds and upgraded facilities in the main Primary dining hall. Much less obvious, but equally impactful, is the investment in IT facilities to upgrade our network and further improve the facilities to support the students in their day to day learning, including the provision of Apple TVs and air printing.
This is by no means an exhaustive list of campus development and all of this work was skilfully fitted in around a number of very successful summer courses and camps.
The result is that we have even more, really eye catching state of the art facilities that will make a real difference to learning environments available to staff and students in our school. We look forward to showcasing these for you over the coming months.
More important still, we have some talented and wonderfully enthusiastic new staff whose profiles you will find in the staff section of the website and who you will have a chance to meet over the first few weeks of term. They have settled in quickly and well and are looking forward to leading and being involved in the many exciting experiences we have planned for the year and the all-important challenge of helping all of the students in our care to thrive and fulfil their potential.
Speaking of which we will shortly be sending more detailed information about the stunning academic success our students achieved last year. I must take this opportunity to congratulate the 25% (the world wide average is 5%) of our Year 13 graduates who again scored 40+ points in their IB Diploma exams and in particular Katie White and Seung Min Hwang who achieved the distinction of scoring full marks 44 out of 45. In fact a hugely impressive 40% of our leavers scored 38 points or more.
The new term has now begun and it is important that you are aware of a number of new elements of our work and that we remind you about some of the important basic systems that need your support if they are to work well.
Many of you will be driving to school, some for the first time, and you will need to understand our traffic management system, therefore you will find attached a copy of the information available in English and Chinese for all drivers and car owners. It is important that we all support and follow these procedures to help keep all of us safe during the busy drop off and pick up periods.
Finally we have a new upgraded campus security system that we will be rolling out over the next few weeks. A warm welcome is one of our three promises to parents and we remain fully committed to this promise, but at the same time we need to have a slightly more robust security system that controls entry to the school during and indeed after school hours.
We have brought in an experienced and expert management company to help us train and develop the existing team of security guards. They will be supported with a new ID card system which operates from our recently upgraded Management Information System (MIS) and uses smart cards and scanners at the gates to give access to authorised persons.
I will be writing to you all in more detail in the next day or so to explain the details of the plan and roll out programme.
We are looking forward to working with you to continue to support and guide the students in our care to be the best that they can be.
Kevin Foyle, Principal
