We had a good representation of children who had a mixed knowledge and understanding of the game, but they were all willing to learn and work hard to apply the skills and techniques of the game as demonstrated by Mike and the supporting staff from BISS. Mike made it clear that we should enjoy ourselves and the practices he set up allowed for a great deal of challenging fun to take place.
We worked with the main three elements of batting, bowling and fielding and spent time discussing with Mike the right approach to adopt to enable us to be more successful in the game. Children were asking insightful questions and the atmosphere during discussions and practices was energetic and enthusiastic at all times. The degree of development was impressive.
The children were obviously listening to the advice being given; sticking to the basics and in the final game we witnessed hat-tricks from bowlers, cover drives for four and even a 6 over the bowler’s head. Our fielding was terrific by the end of the game. Mike gave a lot of attention to the calls the batters should make when operating between the stumps and again, the children developed huge confidence in this area.
Everyone learnt a great deal from this unique opportunity and we thank Mr Gatting for his input and vast expertise. Hopefully we can use this event as a springboard to raise the profile of cricket here at BISS Puxi.
