Literacy, Maths and Vegetable Soup on the Menu for Year 2

18 January 2016

Healthy eating is a topic we preach to our students and so last week in Year 2, we decided to seek some help from Mums and Dads to help reaffirm this message.

Reading the story The Enormous Turnip in Literacy meant we were in the mood to head up to the cooking room and make some delicious vegetable soup.

At first, it was quite a challenge as we had to weigh and measure all the ingredients. In Maths, we have been looking at different measures so this helped us when we went outside and investigated capacity and volume.

Then we brought scales into the classroom and investigated the weight of different objects. Once we finished making the vegetable soup, the fun part came when we all got to try our wonderful creation.
