Comments on the book’s strengths and weaknesses
A wonderful look into the investigation skills and legal system of 1892. The narrative is written as of the time so is difficult to read. The story is disjointed as a lot of the evidence has been lost over time. However, if you persevere with the book it's an interesting read.
Your personal response
As you read the book your opinion wavers from innocent to guilty. In the end the evidence and decision of the jury is compelling....... but is it right? It was amazing to see how the legal system worked during this era and how the accused was treated before, during and after the trial.
Give the book a mark out of 5 (with 5 being excellent)
