Learning Theme – A Pirate's Life for Me

Our learning theme ‘Pirates’ has been a big hit, we talked to the children about what they would like to do and what they have learnt so far. They decided they still wanted to know more about being a pirate, the pirate ships, digging for treasure and also explore the world of mermaids. This will give us a new twist to the week, looking at fantasy lands, mermaid costumes and of course reading lots of lovely books.

Key Vocabulary:  pirate, pirate life, map, treasure, captain, mermaid.

Expressive Arts and Design - Being imaginative

Over the week the children helped us design a pirate island in our sand pit. It was wonderful to see the children taking control of their own learning, coming up with lots of ideas. We will use this area to hunt for pirate treasure, remembering X marks the spot!

Key Vocabulary: treasure, island, pirates, treasure hunt, map, dig.

We will meet one of the most famous pirates this week, Captain hook! Peter Pan and his friends will save the treasure from the terrible Captain. We will need to think of ways to solve problems, looking back at the books to retell the wonderful tale. Expect lots of fairies and pirates to be coming home this week!

We are going to continue with our pirate topic. We are going to review key words we have learnt last week and we will learn some new words: haidaochuan (pirate ship), haidaomao (pirate hat), jinbi (gold coin).

Children will make a finger print pirate and go on a treasure hunt with their friends.

Many thanks for your continued support.
