Week Beginning 9 May 2016

We have been having quite a warm spring in Shanghai this year! As the days get sunnier, please send in a hat for your child to help protect their skin and eyes. We also recommend applying sunscreen in the morning before arriving at school to ensure your child will not get sunburnt. It can also be wet so make sure your child has a light weight raincoat in their bag ready in case of a sudden rain shower.

MESSAGES

  • We will be having some muddy fun as part of this week’s theme. In order for your child to participate in this cleanly can you please send in some wellington boots all week.
  • We are always looking for ways to improve the safety of the children, particularly at home time.  At present we are trialing a new system, which may be slower but is safer.  Thank you for your understanding and support.

LEARNING THEME

Next week starts a three week theme all about amazing and cuddly bears! This week we will focus on the book ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ by Michael Rosen. This book is an imaginative tale of a family who goes out on a beautiful day and has an adventure to find a bear. Their adventure takes them through a variety of environments, such as: a forest, a snow storm, mud and grass. It is an amazing book that the children will love. As part of our learning children will have the opportunity to explore various sensory environments related to the story, make equipment related to adventures and lots of other creative and imaginative play.

Key Vocabulary: sounds, loud, quiet, bear hunt, beautiful, day, adventure

Literacy

Next week children will have the opportunity to learn a new story. “Going on a Bear Hunt’’ allows the children the opportunity to explore the sounds made through language, i.e. ‘Swishy swashy’, ‘hoo woo’ and so on. The story is extremely creative and will get the children to use the written words to create the bear hunt world and it many environments.
