Week Beginning 15 February 2016

On Friday 25 March we will have the International Day parade. Children will have the opportunity to dress in their national costumes or in the colours of their home country.

MESSAGES

  • Swimming - During the winter months, girls are allowed to wear black leggings and black socks instead of tights under their dresses/skirts on Swimming days. This will make it easier for the girls to change before and after lessons.
  • Uniform:  Now that it is colder in the mornings please remember that children should not be wearing leggings, boots or hoodies.  They should be wearing school jumpers/cardigans/fleeces and NOT non-uniform versions.  Information is available on the Primary Parent Handbook on the website.

LITERACY

The children will be learning how to construct a sentence using a main clause and subordinate clause. To give this work a context they will learn about Robin Hood and then write sentences and eventually a recount from the point of view of Robin Hood.

MATHS

In Maths the children will be applying their knowledge of addition and subtraction by opening a hat shop! After they have decided on how much they want to spend on the materials for their hat, the children will make their own hat in Maths lessons. Following this they will open a hat shop and try and buy and sell their hats for a profit.

THEMED LEARNING

In Themed Learning we will become historians. We will research the question “Is Robin Hood real or a legend?” The children will use painting’s, stories, videos and text books to carry out their research. Once they have completed their research they will create a film documentary about their findings using the I Pad app I Movie.

PSHCE

The children will become historians and make a video documentary discussing whether they think Robin Hood is a fictional or mythical character. Prior to this, the children will research Robin Hood using stories, video documentaries, paintings and websites. Each child will then create a video using the I Pad app I Movie.

VOCABULARY

DUTCH

De leesmarathon is weer van start gegaan. Alle kinderen van primary hebben een formulier meegekregen. De kinderen lezen zo veel mogelijk voor. Per gelezen bladzijde vragen zij een kleine sponsorbijdrage. Het kind dat de meeste bladzijdes leest, wordt extra in het zonnetje gezet. Van het geld dat de kinderen bij elkaar lezen, organiseren we op vrijdag 26 februari een spetterend filmfestival. En de kinderen weten het: hoe meer er gelezen wordt, hoe groter we kunnen uitpakken bij het filmfestival... Veel succes allemaal!

De kinderen van year 2 hebben heel wat inspiratie opgedaan bij het snuisteren in de kookboeken en het bereiden van lekkere gerechten.  Deze week ontwerpen we onze eigen superdrankjes.  Zou er bijvoorbeeld een voetbaldrankje  bestaan waardoor je veel doelpunten kan maken?  Of een popzangeresdrankje waarvan je een mooie stem krijgt?

Tijdens de spellinglessen besteden we aandacht aan woorden met –eer, -oor en –eur achteraan.
