Week Beginning 16 May 2016

  • Please label all school uniform, snack boxes and water bottle to avoid items getting lost in school. Every child needs to have a water bottle to bring in each day. No glass containers please.
  • In the Summer Term, please ensure children wear sun hats on hot days to protect them when playing outside.

This week the children will finish their poetry unit. They will look at onomatopoeia, which are words that create the effect of sounds such as splash, bang, whoosh, and use the language to create poetry. This week their genre of poetry is called a Cinquain. These have 5 lines; 1 word to introduce the subject, 2 or 3 adjectives, 2 or 3 actions, a short phrase and finally a single word to sum up the poem.

The children will be working with multiplication and division this week, including using their skills with the column method to solve problems. They will be consolidating their knowledge and understanding of HTU X U and TU X U. A further focus will be the quick mental recall of multiplication and division facts for the 3, 4 and 8 times tables.

Our focus this week continues to be science, where the children are using their developing knowledge of variables to plan and carry out experiments. They will be deciding on the independent variable (a single variable that will be changed) and the controlled variables (kept the same) to run a fair test.

The children will be identifying things they have done successfully and things that could be improved in their work in their approach to science this week. This is part of their development in self and peer assessment.
