Next year: As the end of year is approaching we are already beginning planning for the new classes next year. However, this is a long and complicated process. Please be aware that information about new classes and teachers will not be available for several weeks, but we do aim to be able to share this with you before the end of term. We aim to provide stability in moving complete classes to the next year group whenever possible. When classes have to be altered we use our detailed knowledge of the children and consider carefully friendships, gender and nationality. As part of Science Week we will be celebrating the life of Swedish scientist and astronomer Anders Celsius. In Literacy this will involve students dramatizing the major events in his life and creating graphic novels and play scripts to illustrate the life of the man who is known for his Celsius thermometer.
This week the focus will be on reviewing measures. This will include capacity, length, weight, money and time. The children will complete both practical and problem solving tasks to reinforce connections and they will be encouraged to explain their thinking. Conversions between different units of metric measure will be a focus. The activities will also help with calculations in particular with respect to using decimal and fractional notation.
The celebration of Science will continue in Themed Learning with students making their own ice-cream in the cooking room demonstrating an exothermic reaction and in the science laboratory they will be recreating miniature volcanic eruptions. In Art we will use pastels to imitate the Aurora phenomena, also known as the Northern Lights, linked to our man of the week, Anders Celsius, as he recognized the effect this natural wonder has on magnetic compass-needles.
Students will continue to create computer coding to create games. Over the rest of this term, classes will work with Lego Wedo on a rotation, to create adventure activities to accompany their stories. They will learn to use sensors and apply skills to create their own models.

De redactie is uitgeput, maar voldaan na het afronden van de artikelen voor het SDS Nieuwsblad en het opnemen van het SDS Nieuws. De resultaten volgen spoedig (de twee oudste redactieleden zetten de krant in elkaar en monteren het nieuws).

Het laatste thema gaat over superhelden. Niet alleen die van de tv, met capes en superkrachten, maar juist de helden onder ons. Wat maakt jou een held? Ken je een held in de familie? Hoe kun je een held worden?
