Week Beginning 29 February 2016

Uniform: Now that it is colder in the mornings please remember that children should not be wearing leggings, boots or hoodies. They should be wearing school jumpers/cardigans/fleeces and NOT non-uniform versions. Information is available on the Primary Parent Handbook on the website.


In Literacy we will use the next two weeks to design and make a board game. The game will link to the children’s work in Themed Learning about The Silk Road. As well as making the game, children will look at the important features of writing rules for games, including, writing in the second person, using the active voice and also the present tense.  They will also find out why they are not allowed to use the word “should”.


In Maths this week, we will be looking at grids and coordinates. Children will  identify and describe the position of a shape following a reflection or translation using the appropriate language, and know that the shape has not changed. In mental maths, we will practise multiplying and dividing numbers mentally drawing upon known facts.


In Themed Learning we will be developing our Art skills by painting on silk. The children will investigate a variety of traditional Chinese designs and will incorporate these elements into designs of their own. They will practise and refine their ideas, paying close attention to detail and brush stroke techniques. The final designs will be chosen and painted to make a silk hankerchief.

Het nieuwe  thema heet: ‘Dit was het nieuws’ en gaat....inderdaad, over het nieuws. De kinderen verdiepen zich in de wondere wereld van de journalistiek waarbij nieuwsberichten, radioverslagen, onderzoek en kranten de revue passeren.

Grammatica en spelling

Naar aanleiding van de uitslag van de Cito-toetsen zal er in het programma meer ruimte ingebouwd worden voor spelling en grammatica. Ook zetten wij vroeger in op werken met het werkwoord en werkwoordsvervoeging.

Year 5 will be working on position and  agreement of adjectives. They will use the knowledge to describe clothes.
Homework: Look at the pictures and complete the sentences with the most suitable expression.

Year 5 French - Miss Rae
In French next week we will be continuing our new unit on Fashion. We will have revised clothing names and colours and will begin to expand our vocabulary by thinking about patterns and different materials.

Homework this week is label the French colours in English and find the colours in the word search.
