Week Beginning 18 January 2016

Uniform: Now that it is colder in the mornings please remember that children should not be wearing leggings, boots or hoodies. They should be wearing school jumpers/cardigans/fleeces and NOT non-uniform versions. Information is available on the Primary Parent Handbook on the website.

In our third week of Literacy we will be continuing a series of lessons investigating information texts and how opinions differ from facts. We will be interrogating some high quality non-fiction books to discover how important our oceans are for life on Earth. We will then be using our sentence-level work to construct sophisticated sentences using colons and semi-colons to add to our information texts from last week.

In our third week of Maths we will be investigating volume and capacity. This will involve an initial study of how to differentiate between the two. We will then build up into a week of practical maths involving the practical applications of volume and capacity with a series of real-life investigations. We will use a range of resources and challenge the students with open-ended, high-ceiling problems.

This term our new Themed Learning topic is water. This will be a unit that will involve a great deal of practical scientific investigation and the study of some challenging geographical case studies. In the third week we will be investigating some of the science behind water quality and purity. This will involve an investigation into how to remove impurities from water and how these are harmful to human health.

In PSHCE this week we will continue to focus on fostering new relationships as we have had a number of new students join our year group, creating rules and expectations for the classes and how to work together successfully.  We will reflect on what we achieved last term and discuss new personal targets for the term ahead.

Literacy – heading, sub heading, caption, quote, diagram, illustration

Maths– volume, capacity, formulae, area, perimieter, cubes, surface-area, perimeter

Themed Learning- purity, clarity, microbes, microscope

Koken, bakken, braden...
