Business Plan (YEC) Competition Trip

It gives me great pleasure to inform you of another exciting opportunity to add depth and extension to the learning in Business Studies.  Your son or daughter has indicated a strong interest to represent our school in the Fifth Annual Business Plan Competition in Beijing.

About the YEC: The Young Entrepreneurs Competition is now in its fifth year and will include six international schools. Students are required to present a business idea in the form of a business plan pitch to a panel of successful entrepreneurs.  This year, it is hosted at The British School of Beijing, Shunyi, another school in the Nord Anglia Education family of schools.  Teams are expected to integrate different elements of marketing such as market research, market segmentation and the marketing mix in preparing their campaign. It also builds on the finance skills and creativity frameworks we have practiced. These projects are structured to help the students to develop a better understanding of marketing and other business concepts as well as igniting their desire to run their own enterprises in the future. It will be run in the format of a formal presentation to venture capitalists, and as such students are expected to wear formal business attire.

Dates/Details: The students will depart from Shanghai on the afternoon of Tuesday 12 May and return late on the evening of Wednesday 13 May. We are in the process of arranging train and hotel bookings. The total cost per student is expected to be RMB 2200.  Please make payment using one of the following methods detailed on the attached sheet.

We expect that the competition will be a fantastic learning experience to practice entrepreneurship and use the skills they have learned during the year.  Please get in touch with me at if you have any concerns or wish to discuss further.

To enable me to continue with the process of organizing the trip, please sign the consent slip below, and return it with payment by Friday 18 April.

Kind regards,

Matthew Worley
