Recreational Trips

Some of the very best learning takes place away from school, when students spend time together on a residential trip to an unfamiliar, exciting and challenging location. There are opportunities to be involved in new activities and work with different people. Students always come back from these trips tired, happy, and a little more ‘grown up’.

IB Trips

Our IB students have the chance to spend a week in Cambodia or Vietnam. They work with disadvantaged children by teaching English, playing sport or singing, or they work on developing a local school by building, farming, painting and maintaining. They see the local country, visiting places like Angkor Wat and exploring the temples and ancient sites, or the Chu Chi tunnels in Vietnam, and the Killing Fields and S21 prison or the Ho Chi Minh City war museum. Local culture is always a new experience and local food and travel is a great bonding experience and a set of memories to share.

Year 10 & 11 Trips

Year 10 and 11 students have to undertake an adventurous journey as part of their International Award. Expeditions in torrential rain on the Ninghai trails are certainly character forming, and waking up in a tent in the early morning light on a guard tower on the Great Wall of China is an unforgettable experience. Students plan their own expeditions, with specialists ensuring that everything is challenging and stretching, but safe.

Key Stage 3 Trips

Key Stage 3 students spend an activity week each June in a different part of China, or sometimes overseas. Last year, Year 9 spent time in Vietnam, in Ho Chi Minh City and Madagui Forest City, visiting the Chu Chi war museum, crawling down Vietcong tunnels, learning about the country, its history and its culture. Like the other year groups, they also found time for activities like rafting, kayaking, rock climbing, paintballing, grass sledging, tent building, walking, zip-lining, swimming, team-building games.

Year 8 enjoyed a trip to Inner Mongolia, experiencing the desert and the grassy plains, sleeping in tents and yurts, and riding camels.

Year 7 went to southern China, discovering the local food, climate and culture, and throwing themselves into a range of team-building and adventure activities.

Primary Trips

Primary students in years 5 and 6 have the opportunity to take part in residential outings which involve them staying away from home for up to five nights. These residential programmes are meticulously organised to ensure that the students have challenging and fun learning experiences, while being safe and secure at all times. These are action packed residential programmes with the emphasis on outdoor pursuits, personal challenge, risk taking, problem solving and team building. This year, the year 5 students will go to Nan Bei Hu while the year 6 team are off to see the sights of Beijing.
