Week Beginning 13 March 2017


  • Year 3 Learning Showcase: Friday 17th March 9:00-10:00
  • We do our best to ensure the children’s hair is dried after swimming. To support us with this please can you make sure that your child brings a rubber swim hat, and a warm hat for outside play. Thank you for your continued support with this.
  • Now the weather is colder, please send your child with a coat and/or school fleece clearly labelled with their name.  Please do not send ‘hoodies’.  Children may also like to bring a hat to keep their head warm, especially after swimming. 
  • Please ensure that your child has the correct school uniform. In particular please ensure your child is wearing black shoes. Girls should wear plain white socks and boys should wear black or grey socks. You can review the school’s uniform policy here.


In Literacy this week, we will be starting a unit on fantasy stories. This will revolve around books by James Mayhew, where a little girl, Katie, steps into famous paintings and has adventures. Our focus will be the understanding the events of the story and will include lots of drama opportunities, developing an understanding of the pattern of the books as well as the characters.

In Maths, the children will be focusing on money. They will start with recognising the key UK coins and consolidating their understanding of the value of each of them, i.e. £1 is equivalent to 100 pennies, two 50p coins, and five 20p coins. They will then apply their adding and subtraction skills to coins through a variety of practical activities, including giving change.

The children will be continuing their unit on Light and Shadow. They will be investigating white light and the colours we see by making spinners. They will follow this up by exploring refracting light through practical activities.

In Computer Programming the children will continue to work on manipulating and edit photographs,  before using Windows Movie Maker to create a video record of their school trip. They will add in music and sound effects.

Een hele kunst

We starten met een nieuw thema waarin Kunst met een grote K centraal staat. We leggen de nadruk op beschouwen en ervaren en het formuleren van onderbouwde meningen.

Verschillende boeken staan weer centraal, waaronder: ‘Willewete, Naar het museum’, ‘Het grote Rijksmuseum voorleesboek’, ‘Kunst voor kinderen’, ‘Kunstige Kwasten’ en ‘De Stip’.

Deze week hebben we het over feit en mening en kijken naar kunst. Samen met de leerlingen werken we een woordbank uit.

De Cito-resultaten van de meeste kinderen worden maandag mee naar huis gegeven. Een enkele leerling moet door afwezigheid nog een toets afmaken of inhalen. De uitslagen van deze leerlingen volgen later deze week.


Year 3 / 4 Spanish – Ms Caldwell

Next week we will be learning the vocabulary for items in our pencil cases such as scissors, pencils, etc.  The children will play games using this vocabulary, including prepositions to describe where things are.
Homework this week is to revise items in the house using Linguascope.  (Username: bisspuxi  Password: bissmfl)

Year 3 / 4 Spanish – Ms Martinez

Next week we will continue to use descriptive vocabulary, and embed the rule of adjective agreement.

Homework: To revise vocabulary for parts of the body, colours, grande and pequeño using Linguascope.

Year 3 / 4 French – Ms De Borger

Next week we will continue our Tour de France. We will design new shirts for the cyclists of the Tour de France and stop in Avigon to sing the song `Sur le Pont d`Avignon`. 

This week`s homework will be sorting pictures of famous landmarks and foods by sticking them on the French map.

Die Kinder haben diese Woche die Verben „hatnah“ erlebt: sie pantomimisch gezeigt und beim Kochrezept erkannt und  befolgt.

Zu Hause haben die Kinder eine Wahl: entweder ein Kochrezept in Verben aufschreiben (wir nehmen, wir waschen, wir schneiden) oder einen Wochenendtag in Verben beschreiben (ich wache auf, ich stehe auf, ich spiele usw.)

La semana que viene vamos a seguir trabajando los sustantivos y su clasificación. Como deberes, deben traer un libro de lectura de su elección que tienen que empezar a leer este fin de semana.
