Week Beginning 5 June 2017


  • Now the weather is getting warmer, please could you encourage your child to bring in a hat and also a water bottle so that they remain well hydrated during the day.
  • Please label all school uniform, snack boxes and water bottles to avoid items getting lost in school.
  • Class Lists 2017-18

We are currently working on class lists for 2017-18 and will share these with you during the week beginning 12 June.

As is our practice, we aim to provide stability for our students by moving them up with their existing classes where possible, while also taking account to ensure that classes are balanced. Following the issue of the class lists, it will be possible to meet with Ms Jess should you have any questions. However, we ask for your trust in us that that all decisions taken are in the best interests of all the children and your understanding that we cannot meet requests of individual parents.

In Literacy this week, we will complete our unit on plays. The children will create their own short play scripts. They will then perform their plays, taking on roles to practise their speaking and performance, focusing particularly on their use of expression, intonation and volume.

This week we will be looking at data and statistics. Linking with our Chocolate topic, the children will first conduct market research to find out which chocolate products are the most popular. They will present their results in tables and charts before creating questions for other members of the class to answer.

The children will continue working on their Design Technology project to make a 3D bar of chocolate. They will use a dvd case as a base to mould a chocolate bar using papier mache. Next they will design the wrapper, adding rolled paper to make a relief. Finally they will paint the bar and the wrapper to add the finishing touches to their final product.

In Computing we will be continuing our last unit of coding, using The children will begin with offline activities designed to help them to understand the concepts of sequencing in algorithms. They will progress on to using a simplified version of Python to complete more and more complicated challenges, building their understanding and use of computer programming.

In het wild

De leerlingen van KS2 werken aan het thema ‘In het wild’. In dit thema doen leerlingen rollenspellen, maken ze een stripverhaal over een zelfverzonnen avontuur of aflevering van Freek in het Wild en maken ze een vlog van een ode aan hun favoriete dier, geïnspireerd op de boeken ‘Zij de cobra, wij de adder’ (Y3 en 4) en ‘stem op de okapi’ (Y5 en 6).                                           Cito-toetsen

Deze week maken de leerlingen het gros van de Cito-toetsen. De onderdelen begrijpend en technisch lezen, spelling en woordenschat worden getoetst.

Leerlingen kunnen niet voor de toetsen leren, maar het wekelijkse huiswerk van SDS  is een goede Cito-training.De leerlingen worden vooral aangemoedigd om extra spelling te oefenen met BLOON (, inlognaam is SDSyear3 of SDS year4 of SDSyear5 of SDSyear6, wachtwoord spellen). Het trainen van spelling is een kwestie van herhaling. 

Ook het maken van de Nieuwsbegripopdrachten online is een goede oefening.
