This week, we will continue to use the Ancien Greek as a basis for our Literacy learning. We will link our learning with our Themed lessons by investigating the Greek Army – using information texts. We will look at the different features used, and how the vocabulary helps to explain the information. Additionally, we will make use of dictionaries and further our independent learning skills. We wil also think abou the different beween formal and informl language.

Next week the children will be focusing on division. They will be revising and building on their existing skills through a variety of games, problem solving and investigation based activities. The children will focus on dividing with remainders using formal written methods. The children will also be introduced to long division strategies. In preparation for this week, it would be helpful if the children could continue to practise their times tables to compliment the work done in class.

After learning about the Athenians and the Spartans, we’re moving onto looking at how these two enemies worked together during the Battle of Marathon. We’ll investigate why the Greek army was so powerful (comparing it to the Roman army) and see this in action during the Trojan War.

Sparta, Athens,  army, Trojan, Marathon

We will focus on using search technologies effectively to inform our understanding of topics. The children will search for information and develop methods to narrow their search.

Key words, precise, results page, synonyms, alternative

This term our new PSHCE / well-being program will begin.  The first core value covered is collaboration.  This is the ability to work constructively with others, and children will learn to negotiate, to resolve conflicts, and to support agreed solutions. In doing so, they will strengthen their sense of teamwork and realize where they lack certain skills; which they can later hone.

Collaboration, groups, teamwork, skills
