'Literacy and Maths’ workshop – find out about the school’s approach in Key Stage 2. Designed for new parents, but all welcome.


  • Thank you to all the parents that attended the ‘Meet & Greet’.  It was wonderful to meet many of you and we look forward to a positive year ahead guiding the students in Year 4. Please say 'Hello' to the teachers in the upcoming  weeks, if you have not yet met any of them.
  • Homework will be given out on Wednesdays and expected in on Mondays.  For the first week, homework is optional and entries can be brought in any time before Wednesday 9 September.
  • Please ensure that your child has the correct school uniform. In particular please ensure your child is wearing black shoes. Girls should wear plain white socks and boys should wear black or grey socks. You can review the school’s uniform policy on our website.
  • Please remember to send in and label your child’s snack box and water bottle, as well as a hat during the hot weather.
  • If for any reason your child is unable to take part in PE, please send a signed message in your child’s communication book.  Your child still needs to bring in their PE kit to enable them to participate as a coach, an official or to give feedback.  If for any reason there is no swimming, your child should bring their normal PE kit.
  • ECA and BISCAP programmes will begin on Monday 12 September.

We are going to be continuing with our study of the book The Iron Man by Ted Hughes this week. The children have really enjoyed the 'conscience' corridor and discussions that we have had about Hogarth and how they may have acted if they had been in his shoes. We will be following on from this with some drama work, performing  in small groups to the rest of the class. They will be focusing on what people are saying, thinking and feeling. They wil also be completing some extended writing by predicting the next chapter and telling us what they think will happen next, up-levelling their work to include interesting conjunctions.

This week, the children will be reviewing their knowledge and understanding of shape and measure. They will look at the properties of 2D shapes and which movements certain shapes can make, and then link this with a recap of area and perimeter. The children will then use their logical thinking and teamwork skills to solve capacity problems for the remainder of the week.

Students will discuss ‘What were the most important inventions?’ and then evaluate a suggested top ten of best inventions to rank them in order of importance, explaining and justifying their decisions. They will use iPads to create a presentation of their thoughts on this question. We will also be looking at some of Leonardo Da Vinci’s technical drawings and creating our own annotated sketches  of a flying machine. Students will design and plan a scientific experiement.

This week we will be looking at the programme Microsoft Word and what features it has that we can use to improve our work. We will be focusing on a piece of writing “All About Me” and how we can edit, improve and save the document.

Welkom bij Reisbureau SDS!

De medewerkers van KS2 van Reisbureau SDS blijken zeer ervaren reizigers die fantastisch kunnen putten uit eigen ervaringen bij het oriënteren, plannen en beschrijven van hun reis voor de reisbeurs van donderdag 29 september a.s. . De leerlingen werken de komende week verder aan hun flyer, die ze ontwerpen aan de hand van de antwoorden op de W/H-vragen. Ook starten we met het schrijven van het reisprogramma.

We herhalen bij spelling de klankgroepen, hakwoorden en woorden met –nk. Year 5 oefent de verleden tijd van het werkwoord. Year 6 werkt aan het herkennen en spellen van het hulpwerkwoord en voltooid deelwoord.

Year 3 / 4 Spanish – Ms Watson

Next week students will be recognising and naming different animals. They will also continue to introduce themselves explaining where they are from. For homework they will need to revise the names of animals and begin to access Duolingo.

Year  3/ 4 French:  Miss Wood

Next week we shall be continuing with revision of basic French vocabulary. We shall look at parts of the body and animals. The vocabulary will be reinforced by creating short plays and creating quizzes and games in small groups.
Homework: to complete the wordsearch on common greetings.

Im Deutschunterricht diese Woche haben wir uns näher kennengelernt und das Spiel „Mein Stern“ gespielt, wobei die Kinder über einander viel herausfinden konnten. Anschlieβend beschäftigten wir uns mit dem deutschen Alphabet und der alphabetischen Reihenfolge. Die Kinder haben ihre Booklets und Hefte bekommen.
Die Hausaufgabe ist es, die Schulsachen, die man auf dem Wimmelbild „Wir in der Schule“ sehen kann, aufzuschreiben. Dabei gibt es auch optionale Aufgaben, die klar markiert sind. Die Hausaufgabe machen die Kinde in den Heften.
