Week Beginning 11 September 2017


  • School phoos will take place on Thursday 14th.
  • Please ensure that your child has the correct school uniform. In particular please ensure your child is wearing black shoes. Girls should wear plain white socks and boys should wear black or grey socks. You can review the school’s uniform policy at
  • Please remember to send in and label your child’s snack box and water bottle, as well as a hat during the hot weather.
  • Please have your child’s iPad charged and loaded  with the correct Apps, they will be used in lessons from Monday 12th September.
  • If for any reason your child is unable to take part in PE, please send a signed message in your child’s communication book.  Your child still needs to bring in their PE kit to enable them to participate as a coach, an official or to give feedback.  If your child would be swimming, they should bring their normal PE kit.
  • Registration for the HSK (Chinese Proficiency Test) is now open to adults and students. The HSK test will be held on Saturday 11 November 2017. Please see the attached registration form for information. Full documentation and payment for HSK test must be received by Monday 9 October 2017.


In Literacy this week, the children will be looking at a variety of African fables and responding to an animation about water shortage in parts of Africa. Using this range of inspiration the children will be creating and planning their own stories set in Africa. The grammar focus will be incorporating accurate and purposeful speech and dialogue into the stories. Additionally, using a range of time conectives to make our stories flow.

This week we shall be focussing on rounding and estimating. We shall continue our work using large numbers, which helps the children to become confident with number manipulation. Exploring estimations, and how they can help us to understand mathematical situations, will also be a particular focus, as the children experience and work with mathematical problems related to real life situations. Estimations will be verified through calculating, which offers  more opportunities for the children to practise their understanding of all four operations.

The children asked questions at the beginning of our theme about how economically water scarce countries could improve their access to water. Through discussion we came up with the idea of building a well and the impact that would have. The children decided to use our Da Vinci preparation week to look at the technology and theory behind wells and how they work, this includes studying mechanisms. This is to give them the knowledge for when they must design and build their own.

This week the children will be moving onto to our Python coding unit. We will use the software Rapid Router, to discover how real computer programming looks and have an opportunity to write some code to make a small game on the screen.

In PSHCE this term we will be looking at teamwork and collaborative working.  We will focus further on fostering new relationships, creating rules and expectations for the group and how to work together successfully.

This weekend’s homework will be to continue with the homework grid, choosing one homework task per week.
Next week, the children will continue to revise greetings but progress to responses and understand the convention of kissing on the cheek when greeting.

Next week we will practise telling the time in French.  We will make pictures of a regular school day, adding the correct time in French.

Die Hausaufgabe für diese Woche ist im Booklet auf S. 4 (KV 31) Nr. 1 und 2. Falls die Kinder die Märchen kennen, können sie auch schon Nr. 3 lösen. Außerdem sollen sie einen Eintrag in ihr Lesetagebuch machen.
Nächste Woche werden die Kinder kurze Texte lesen, deren Inhalt erfassen und anhand von Leitfragen aus den Texten heraus ihre Meinung begründen.

Dutch Newsletter Year 3 – 6

Klaar voor de start

De baby van Juf Chris en Meester Job is geboren. Het is een jongetje en hij heet Moos! Het gaat goed met Juf Chris en Moos! Deze week hebben de  leerlingen  allemaal een groet aan juf Chris en Moos geschreven. Juf Chris  was erg blij met de leuke berichtjes van alle leerlingen.

We hebben deze week ook hard gewerkt aan de tijdlijnen. Ze zijn bijna allemaal  klaar en hangen in de klas van Juf Chris of in de gang. Jullie mogen gerust eens komen kijken.

We starten nu met het maken van ons klassenspel. De leerlingen ontwerpen samen een bordspel compleet met handleiding, vragen- en opdrachtkaartjes.  De leerlingen hebben in Blok1 van Staal alle categorieën van het vorige leerjaar herhaald en leren in Blok 2  nieuwe categorieën kennen.
