  • TERM 3 ECA/BISCAP/BISS Lions Swimming: Programmes will begin on Monday 17 April and run until Friday 16June 2017. Due to the Y6 residential, the following ECA Clubs will start the week commencing Monday 24 April:

Now the weather is getting warmer, please could you encourage your child to bring in a hat and also a water bottle so that they remain well hydrated during the day.

Our school librarians are in school until 4:30pm on a Monday and Tuesday.  If, as parents, you would like to borrow books you can set up afamily account.

  • The first week of the Year 5 & 6 lunch choices trial has gone relatively smoothly.  We would like to remind you that your child is making their choice independently. For this week only we have sent home the SLETO account so you are aware of the cost implications.  This balance reflects spending from Monday – Thursday.

You may wish to discuss their choices and associated costs with them.  In the future if you would like a breakdown of your child’s account, or have any queries relating to their balance, please contact SLETO directly at  Credit can be added to your child’s account in either the primary or secondary dining halls.

Weekly menus including costs will be published on the school website.


In Literacy the children will continue with poetry. After sharing their recorded performances completed for homework, the children will then begin preparations for writing their own poem. Linking with  the Themed Learning unit, the children will look at examples of poems that vary in structure but all have a space theme. A glossary of space specific vocabulary will be introduced to the children to support them with this creative task.

In Maths we shall be reviewing the use of all four operations in problem solving and puzzles. The children will have opportunities to practice and consolidate their use of both large numbers and decimals. They wil be taught to recognise key words to solve a problem and encouraged to use the most efficient methods. They will consider the context of the problem and decide how remainders to division  problems should be expressed.Scaling up and down quantities will be a particular focus.

This week the children will be experiencing the much anticiapted entry point where they will take part in a series of astronaut training exercises. The children will be using these experiences to investigate and research what life would be like for an astronaut. They will discover what life is like inside the space station. They will also discover what the most challenging apects of being an astronaut are. We will look specifically at the British astronaut Tim Peake and will find out how astronauts sleeps, eats and goes to the toilet! They will also find out how to apply to be an astronaut and what training is needed to become one.

We will be beginning our unit on robotics this week using Lego Mindstorms. The children will have a chance to discuss the different pieces and mechanisms, thinking about what could be created. We will then have an opportunity to complete the 5 minute bot challenge to see if we can make a working, moving robot.

This week we will be focusing on our targets for Term 3. The children will reflect what they have achieved so far in Year 5 and will look ahead to their targets for Term 3. This will be the children’s last term in Year 5 and we will be discussing what they would like to achieve before the end of the term.

Next week, the children will create a travel brochure advertising the key highlights/ main cities of Spain.  They will work in pairs, each pair choosing a different city to research and will collate with the others to produce a travel booklet.
For homework this weekend, children will describe a house and explain where it can be found.

This week we will start our travel around the world. Our first stop will be Vietnam.  We will practice transport related vocabulary and will ask our pen pals in Ho Chi Minh City about school and daily life in Vietnam. 

This week`s homework will be practising the vocabulary we need for writing our letter by completing the Word Search `Faire La Connaissance`.

La semaine, il n'y aura cours que pour les Y5 puisque les Y6 sont en voyage scolaire. Nous en profiterons pour réviser les accords d'adjectifs, de noms et les temps vus jusqu'à présent afin d'améliorer l'orthographe grammaticale de Sofia et Lakme. Pour les devoirs, il faut compléter les 2 fiches du potrait chinois données en classe en vérifiant l'orthographe des mots utilisés dans le dictionnaire.

Kunst met een grote K

De leerlingen van Year 3 en Year 4 bouwen deze week aan een woordbank met woorden die te maken hebben met het thema ‘Kunst met een grote K’. Ook kiezen ze een kunstwerk van een kunstenaar uit de Lage Landen waarover ze een fantasieverhaal schrijven in de stijl van ‘Het grote Rijksmuseum voorleesboek’. De verhalen krijgen zeker een plekje in ons Muurseum.

De leerlingen van Year 5 werken verder aan hun kunstenaarsprofiel. Ook zij starten met het schrijven van een fantasieverhaal gebaseerd op een kunstwerk van een kunstenaar uit de Lage Landen.
