Our Charity Work

At our school we support many charities through various initiatives in school and through extra-curricular activities. We aim to "Help, Care, Give Back, Be Aware."

  • Year 12 work at a local school in Cambodia

You can find out below a bit more about the charities that we are supporting this year and what we do to support them.

If you are interested in finding out more or in getting involved in working with these charities, please contact Ms Coong, Year 12 CAS Coordinator.

The Giving Tree

We support the Giving Tree every year. The Giving Tree is a charity which provides migrant children with a bag full of warmth at Christmas time.

Migrant children come to Shanghai with their parents who come here to work. Migrant schools do not receive a lot of funding so they cannot afford to supply sufficient learning materials for their students. Through the Giving Tree we provide learning materials as well as gifts for these children.

Qing Pu Xiu Long Migrant School

BISS Puxi works closely with this school. In previous years, our students have taken part in a programme that buddied them up with children at the school. They are now strengthening these links further, by running a weekly ECA club at the school in order to offer time and support.

Indochina Starfish Foundation

The Indochina Starfish Foundation is an International Charity which helps some of the poorest, most disadvantaged children in Cambodia. Our Year 12 cohort have visited and volunteered at the ISF schools during Activities Week over the past 3 years.

The ISF Education Programme strives to take children who have never had the benefit of schooling or those who have had to stop education for economic reasons, and support them up to their correct age grade for state school. The children are then sponsored through state school and onto vocational training or further education.

Jayia’s Animal Rescue

JAR is a non-profit small animal rescue group that is committed to protecting and improving the health and welfare of animals through pet health care, education, and the promotion of adoption/foster care as an alternative approach to purchasing animals.

River of Hearts

River of Hearts (ROH), established in 2003, is a Community Centre Shanghai outreach programme. ROH's purpose is to provide a way for people to donate clothing, shoes, bedding, toys and other items in good condition to people in need. Since its inception, River of Hearts has distributed over 9,600 boxes to underprivileged people in Shanghai and throughout China.

Water Aid

Every minute, every day, people suffer and lives are lost needlessly because of a lack of safe water and sanitation. WaterAid is an international charity which works with local partners in different countries to help communities access safe water and sanitation.

Huaxin Therapy and Rehabilitation Centre

The centre is an NGO which was founded in 2004.  They help children with neurological illnesses and allow for their parents to network and meet. They help the children by treating their disorder with physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, acupuncture and massage.
