Dance is much enjoyed at the British International School Shanghai, Puxi. It requires an intricate mix of analysis, creativity, deliberate practice and the strength of character to keep going.

Last year, our student designed, choreographed, performed and filmed the winning entry in the Nord Anglia Education Global Classroom competition, Dance Unites, run and judged by Pineapple Dance Studios.  Their performance was a stunning blend of traditional and modern dance, with costumes that reflected Chinese fashion and a mixture of western and eastern movement.  Dancing on the Bund in the heart of Shanghai drew a large and appreciative crowd, and a clever and innovative sequence filmed in the Shanghai Metro entertained travellers.

We run extra-curricular activities in Dance to encourage students to get involved and develop, providing opportunities to perform in assemblies, productions and at various events.  Dancers perform in school plays and in our Chinese New Year celebrations, for example.

Dance is part of the PE curriculum for boys and girls throughout the Primary School, and it is part of the Secondary programme for girls all the way through the school.  Boys are, of course, welcome to join in with ECA dance to keep their skills up.

Ballet is offered to all years as part of the BISCAP programme.
