Geri graduated from the University of Southampton with a PGCE and went on to teach in an outstanding school in Southampton, UK. It was there where she developed her passion for teaching Business Studies as well as teaching ICT. Here she was professionally encouraged and challenged to develop her own pedagogy and gain experience in teaching, learning and developing resources. Geri was Head of Department for Business and ICT for many years with a clear focus on using data to ensure that no child was left behind. As a teacher, she strives to innovate and transform the learning of students through feedback, student reflection and evaluation. She prides herself on getting to know her students well so that their individual needs are met.
More recently, Geri has been working in Borneo as an International Coach supporting local teachers with their teaching and learning and training existing teachers to become coaches in secondary schools across the country. She played a significant role in influencing change to current pedagogical practice. This involved working at a high level with Government Ministers of Education, Principals and Heads of Department across a number of schools. The project focused on planning and structuring lessons, increasing student talk in the classroom, task design, differentiation and assessment for learning. This was a really exciting opportunity and experience where Geri was able to work internationally with other teachers from across the world where they co-created resources and worked collaboratively to raise standards in education. This role allowed Geri to become reflective about her own practice and she was eager to take back control of her own classroom after the project finished. Geri wanted a completely different experience from Borneo, so she seized the opportunity to teach in Shanghai and is extremely excited about the next steps in her professional career at BISS Puxi.
Geri loves travelling and exploring with her two sons. She feels really privileged to be able to give them the opportunities to visit some remarkable places on this incredible planet. They all love trying new food from different places and experiencing the vast array of transportation in various locations too.
From living in the jungle to living in a huge metropolis, this new experience in Shanghai will be an exciting adventure for all of them. Geri is a keen swimmer, hiker and she enjoys yoga. Geri was an avid jungle runner in Borneo and is looking forward to finding something equally exciting to do in Shanghai. She is looking forward to exploring around Shanghai and the surrounding areas and learning some Mandarin along the way.
