Staff Profile: Kris Van der Mynsbrugge

Kris Van der Mynsbrugge

Geography and Humanities Teacher/ Form Tutor of Year 13

Kris Van der Mynsbrugge was born in Belgium near the city of Antwerp. During Secondary School he discovered his real interest lay in trying to understand the world around him. This led him to the University of Ghent to study History. After his graduation, he decided to become a teacher.  After several teaching assignments as a Humanities teacher, Kris started teaching Dutch Language and Culture Studies for nine years in Antwerp. In January 2014,  Kris and his family moved to Shanghai to experience living and working in China. 

After teaching Humanities and Languages for several years at BISS, Kris started studying again to become a qualified Geography teacher. To support his teaching to non-native English speakers, he also completed a CELTA course during the summer of 2017. Kris enjoys running and swimming and has a huge passion for the outdoors. He has been involved in Duke of Edinburgh expeditions for 4 years at Bronze, Silver and Gold level in BISS. Kris’ wife is also a teacher and during their school holidays they take their two children all over the world to discover new places and cultures.
