Cuixia is from Jiangxi. She graduated with Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language. She studied for her Master’s with the Education University of Hong Kong, and is currently taking part in the MBA programme, with a graduation date in 2023. Cuixia worked in Cambodia for three years as a Chinese teacher and loved the time there. Many of her former students are now at Chinese universities, such as Beijing Normal University and Zhongshan University. Cuixia also worked in the USA for three years, where she learned a lot and developed her skills in teaching. Cuixia’s post as a Mandarin teacher at BISS is her first position in China, and she very much enjoys working with the great Mandarin team.
Cuixia teaches students at IB and IGCSE levels, and is the SAT coordinator at BISS. She enjoys her role very much because she loves to share her knowledge of learn the Chinese language and Chinese culture with her students. During this learning journey, she sees the students making progress and this is what drives her. Furthmore, for Cuixia herself, she too loves to learn about different cultures and languages, and instills this passion in her students. Cuixia believes in ‘learning by doing’. In her lessons, she likes to introduce many different activities and encourages the students to be ‘hands on’. This works to engage the students in their learning and fosters a sense of collaboration. Cuixia encourages her students to use Chinese to interact with each other both inside and outside of the classroom.
In her free time, Cuixia likes to read different books which guide her to understand the world better. She also enjoys keeping fit through regular workouts and hiking. She believes that a healthy body and contact with the natural environment can support the essential needs for life. Cuixia supports the philosophy that we need to take care of ourselves - and then, we can take care of others.
