Rhian gained her PGCE qualification from Middlesex University and began her teaching career at The Queen Elizabeth Boys School in Barnet. She then spent four glorious years at St Clement Danes School in Hertfordshire, followed by three years at Caxton College boarding school, Valencia, Spain before arriving in China. Rhian's teaching and the profession has enabled her to work and travel extensively. Her relocation to The British International School Shanghai, Puxi was motivated by the school's premium facilities, quality teaching and learning and high performance ethos. She has travelled to Boston to attend an MIT STEAM conference and collaboration with Nord Anglia. She looks forward to leading and implementing the inspiring ideas and exciting experiences into the Hamilton STEAM Centre. As a teacher, she believes in offering an exceptional education and life-changing experience for students by emphasising learning through a positive school environment. In the classroom, she believes it is her responsibility to personalise learning to meet the needs of individual students and to be innovative in selecting teaching styles to stimulate them as learners. Rhian feels BISS Puxi is an ambitious and successful school and this has been achieved by sustaining a respectful and honest environment in which students can become well motivated, independent learners. The partnership at BISS between pupils, parents and colleagues has been key to ensuring that all are involved in a dialogue where success can be celebrated and strategies for improvement can be identified.
Rhian’s passion for Art has led her to travel and experience it in a range of contexts. She especially enjoys the variety of gallery spaces, immense diversity in Art and outdoor sculptural parks and spaces scattered around Shanghai’s streets. Rhian feels inspired and motivated by engaging with people from diverse backgrounds, immersing herself in cross-multilingual communities and celebrating differences. Rhian enjoys many outdoor activities and in her leisure time relishes the prospect of discovering the historical haunts of Shanghai and its neighbouring towns. She also enjoys cooking but is partial to the culinary delights Shanghai has to offer from street food to its world class restaurants.
