Barbara van de Beek

Barbara finished her Bachelor of Education degree in 1996 and worked with children in different age groups in primary schools in The Netherlands. Sixteen years ago, she left The Netherlands and moved to Oman. There she taught as a homeroom teacher at the PDO School in the Dutch stream and Dutch as a second language to children in the international stream.

After seven years, Barbara moved to Singapore, where she taught Years 4 to 9 at the Hollandse School Limited, the largest Dutch school outside of The Netherlands. After nine years, she started to miss working at an international school. She is very happy to join the team at BISS Puxi as a Dutch teacher, with colleagues, children and parents from all over the world. Barbara is an experienced teacher who always wants to make sure that the children feel safe and happy in the classroom. This is when children learn best and can achieve their personal goals. Barbara is passionate about using Kagan Cooperative Learning Structures in her teaching, which help make learning more efficient and fun. She loves teaching the Dutch language and culture to children living abroad, keeping them connected to and enthusiastic about their home country.

In her spare time, Barbara loves socialising with friends; exploring the city together or going out for dinner. She loves reading, keeping in contact with friends and family from all over the world. She is also very much looking forward to exploring more of Shanghai, Chinas and Asia - she is also hoping to pick up some Mandarin. Photography is a skill that Barbara would like to learn more about in the future.
