School Uniforms

In line with our emphasis on community and school pride, Collège Champittet students adhere to a mandatory dress code.

Students wear designated uniforms that are both comfortable and high quality. Our uniforms consist of short-sleeved and long-sleeved polo shirts, as well as optional sweatshirts. Each of our uniform items is designed in Champittet's signature colours and includes our emblem in order to celebrate our school history and clearly identify Champittet students.

We recommend all new Champittet students purchase a wardrobe consisting of several Champittet short-sleeved and long-sleeved polos as well as one or two sweatshirts. As of 4th grade, students are also required to wear mandatory sports uniforms during physical education classes. These consist of tracksuits, t-shirts and shorts. Families may purchase uniform items year-round either by visiting the school shop or setting up an appointment via email (maria.crespo@champittet.ch).

The Impact of School Uniforms on a Learning Environment

Collège Champittet mandates a schoolwide uniform for several reasons:

  • School uniforms help students to focus on their studies: Instead of worrying about their appearance or comparing themselves to others, our students are able to focus solely on their classroom work, learning and extracurricular activities. Our uniform eliminates unnecessary distractions and reminds students that they are in a place of learning.
  • Our uniforms create a professional environment: Wearing an official school uniform has been found to help students respect school rules and see themselves as part of a formal learning community. Uniformed students are often more rule-abiding, respectful to teachers and more likely to focus in the classroom.
  • School uniforms foster school pride: Champittet is a tight-knit community that serves as a home away from home for our boarding students. School uniforms help our learners to view themselves as a united student body, fostering an ethos of equality and belonging.
  • Uniforms save students valuable time: We prioritize efficiency and timeliness, and teach students to value these habits. A school uniform supports our effective learning community by saving students time when choosing outfits. It also saves teachers time by eliminating the need to enforce dress codes.

School Uniforms Support Champittet's sense of belonging

Mandatory uniforms have contributed to Champittet's warm and welcoming sense of belonging. Whether students have been with us since kindergarten or are brand new, they can immediately find their place and a sense of belonging. Aided by their uniform, each of our students is made to feel as though they're on equal footing with their peers. While our community culture celebrates our diversity and differences, mandatory uniforms help students to see each other as equals and teammates.

This sense of belonging is vital to Collège Champittet. As our campus becomes a home for our boarding students, it is imperative that each one feels comfortable and connected. School uniforms help to generate this sense of school spirit. A polo may be just a polo  — but with our emblem adorning each student, that shirt can be something more. It becomes a meaningful symbol of the community and the shared experience of each member.
