What a term it has been. 16 weeks in which we have accomplished so much, both in the classroom and out of it. Even before term started we were celebrating some excellent IGCSE and AS level results, a point reinforced later in the term by two of our students being awarded ‘Highest Mark in Vietnam’ certificates by Cambridge International Examinations. We were very pleased with how our results compared with fellow Nord Anglia Education schools in our first full cohort of IGCSE and AS level examinations.
Outside the classroom we have had phenomenal success in sport, performing arts, community and charity and expeditions. The DoEIA continues to grow with the vast majority of Year 10 undertaking the Bronze Award and 4 students starting their Gold Award this year, the first ever in Northern Vietnam.
We also appointed our first Prefects this term. Six students were chosen to support staff in the leadership of the student body. After the holiday they will be wearing their bespoke Prefect shirts to identify them across the campus. This is the pinnacle of our student leadership opportunities and will lead to the position of Head Boy and Girl in future years.
We had a new event last week, Year 7 held a charity awareness day. This was a project that started in their English lessons and questioned what our money goes to. The Year 7 classes then put on several events to raise money for KIVA, a cause they researched very carefully. The highlight was the bidding to throw water balloons at the Secondary Headteacher!
Year 11, 12 and 13 have their mocks very shortly after the holiday so they will be working hard through their time away. I hope they also get a break and that all students and staff return rested to do it all again (and more!) in Term 2.
I hope families have a great holiday if they manage to get away.
Mr Christopher Short, Head of Secondary
