Mr Christopher Short Weekly Update 15.01.2016

15 January 2016

It was excellent to welcome students back to school for our busy Term 2 this week. Our Year 9 parents evening gave me the opportunity to meet with parents from this important year group as students met with their teacher alongside their parents for the last time before they make their IGCSE choices.

Mock examinations started today for all students in Years 11, 12 and 13. These give invaluable practise ahead of the real examinations in May and June. These students will have been juggling last minute studying with some relaxation time over the Christmas holiday.

Before I became a Headteacher I spent 10 years as a Careers and Higher Education Adviser in schools. Today (January 15) used to be a very important day in my life as it was (and is) the deadline for applications to UK universities. Like us we always had our applications submitted well before the deadline but it was still a mental boundary as we moved from submitting applications to receiving offers.

Mr Byrne, Mr Airdrie and the Y13 tutors have worked really hard over the last few months to help students with their university choices and applications and we have been really pleased that we are already beginning to see students receive offers from universities.

Mr Christopher Short, Head of Secondary
