Stephanie worked all day with students from year 2 – year 12 providing a range of classroom workshops, string masterclasses and question and answer sessions. It was a really valuable experience for all of the students involved and some incredibly powerful moments with the older students in particular. Stephanie opened our Winter Showcase last night with a spine-tingling performance of ‘Meditation’ with our very own KIM, Min Ji. This was a very special moment that will be remembered for a long time!
The Winter Showcase was a great success, displaying the hard work and development of the Performing Arts Students. We saw saxophones, trombones and trumpets for the first time, choirs that were thinking differently, ensembles with unique combinations of instruments as well as some beautiful performances of soloists and duets. 140 students auditioned to be part of the event which is a great testament to the drive, commitment and confidence of our students at BIS. All students performed as professional musicians; the support and encouragement for each other was very special.
I am extremely proud of the creators, the players and the ambitions at our school. We are moving forward at an accelerating speed with a shared vision. To finish, a quote from Stephanie whilst speaking to our exam classes yesterday:
“To be successful, it’s not about being the perfect musician or being high and mighty and locking yourself away in your castle. It’s about using music to connect to people – your instrument is your tool. You learn about others, others learn about you. You embrace each other; when you perform, you open your heart to thousands of people at one time to let them in. It’s scary, but worth it. That’s what music is. That’s when you know you’ve been successful.”
