Ms Sue Hill Weekly Update 29.4.2016

29 April 2016

Dear Parents,

It has been lovely greeting the children as they return to school for Term 3. I would like to extend a warm welcome to our new families who are from Japan, Korea and Vietnam and hope they settle quickly into our community.

Thank you to the parents who came in this week for meetings with class teachers. Year 6 held a meeting to talk about their topic ‘Growing Up’ which forms part of the curriculum for Science and PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education). This topic covers the physical as well as emotional changes that children will go through as they make the transition from childhood into adolescence.
The second meeting was for Year 3 parents to talk about the new BIS event which will be happening next week, the Year 3 Sleepover. Mr. Holmes and Ms. Harper delivered a presentation to parents to show the exciting plans for the evening of Thursday 5th May. I’m sure the Year 3 will have lots to share about their adventure on Friday 6th May so we will be holding a special assembly for parents at 2pm next Friday.

New topics have started in all classes and exciting ‘entry points’ have been happening to engage the learners’ interest. Year 1 has been out and about in our local area for the first trip of many to look at buildings and structures. Year 5 had an interesting day on Thursday as they came to school dressed as evacuees to experience, through drama, the feelings of those children who were sent away from their families to safer places during the war.

Term 3 Curriculum Statements will be emailed out to parents next week so that you can discuss your child’s learning with them.

In the EYC assembly this morning, Ms. Rea introduced the new band which accompanied the children when they sang the new ‘Star of the Week’ song. The 7 members of the band were amazing and I look forward to hearing more from them next week.
