Our aim at BIS is to develop our students into confident speakers who have a voice. I was happily engaged for a couple of hours this morning, listening to students in Year 5 and 6 as they taught me various coding skills on the computer, lead me through an art workshop, read their written work aloud and invited me to attend musical showcases. Yes, it was the annual Phase 3 Exhibition!
Today, more than 60 parents attended the Phase 3 Exhibition which has been running for two years now. The original purpose of the event was for children to share achievements with parents and to practice using formal spoken English as they guide visitors around displays of their learning. This year included a number of sessions where children delivered presentations to different audiences. Phase 3 students have been learning to present through a formal speaking programme and I could certainly see the confidence with which our learners are projecting voices with clearly spoken, accurate English.
Year 13 students
Another event this week which focused on sharing achievement, was the led by the IB students in Year 13. Our students really are a credit to our school. The quality of work they have produced for the IB Diploma is of a high standard and it was great to celebrate with them this week.
The IB students will be starting their study leave next Friday and we wish them all the very best for their exams. In addition to exam preparation, the students have been busy with university applications and many have already been offered places at top universities worldwide. Life at university, in a faraway country can be challenging on a number of levels which Mrs Fairbairn and Mr Aidrie are keen to prepare them for. Today, was a test of their cooking skills; confident preparation of some traditional Vietnamese and Korean favourites is important when you are missing mum’s home cooking!
Although the weather feels a little wintery today, I’m hopeful that Spring will return for our social event on Sunday. I hope to see many of you at the Moose and Roo for our Spring Family Brunch.
