Staff and students at BIS Hanoi are very excited about the collaboration between Nord Anglia Education and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT); the world’s top ranked University. Two of our teachers, Mr Toner and Mr Russell visited MIT last week to learn all about the partnership which will bring many new challenges and exciting projects to the students at BIS Hanoi.
There will be three challenges over the course of the 2018-2019 academic year which are based on ‘STEAM Superheroes.’ These superheroes are professors at MIT who have conducted ground breaking research in a variety of fields and our students will be completing challenges based on their work. The challenges are:
- Super Natural: Developing superheroes using bio-inspired design. Based on the work of Professor Anette Hosoi
- Epic Identity: Creating a wearable device to enhance a superhero’s performance. Based on the work of Professor Leia Stirling
- Medical Marvel: Engineering to improve the lives of others. Based on Professor Chris Voigt’s work on a programming language which controls cell behaviour
Key stage III students are invited to apply to present their solutions to the ‘Super Natural’ challenge at a regional event in Cambodia. It is a long held tradition at MIT that students accept their offer of a place by ‘hacking’ or customising the tube the offer comes in before returning it to the University. Taking inspiration from MIT, we would like to do the same. Any student who wishes to travel to Cambodia in October 2018 must return the application form in a ‘hacked’ tube and the most creative entries will be shortlisted for the trip. Entries to be submitted in August 2018 so students have the whole summer to work on perfecting their creations. Anything unclear please email to Mr Martin at firstname.lastname@example.org or Mr Russell at email@example.com
