Wild Rhino Duc Tuan

Dear Parents,

Last week, I congratulated Duc Tuan (Year 11) on his success in a recent competition organised by the Wilderness Foundation. During the summer he will be visiting South Africa on an all-expenses-paid 6-day trip to learn more about the rhinos after which he will become an ambassador for the Wilderness Foundation.

Today I met more of our BIS ambassadors, our highly talented students who have competed in the annual Under 13 FOBISIA Games. The students clinked noisily into my office. This noise can be forgiven however as it resulted from the volume of medals hanging around their necks! Once again, BIS have excelled in this international tournament involving 7 teams. Personal medals were numerous as well as team trophies for basketball, athletics, football and swimming. Tremendous success has been the result of several months of hard work however our secret ingredient, according to the BIS Lionhearts, was our excellent team work. Mr Langford was proud to say that our students were first class in their overall conduct too. Other schools commented on how polite and well-mannered our students are as they cheered on competitors as well as BIS.

Yesterday, I was delighted to attend a performing arts showcase by our musicians and drama students being entered for IGCSE and IBDP. The talented soloists were captivating as they sang their own composition or played the clarinet and piano. This was complemented by small group dramas ranging from comedy to thought-provoking pieces. Congratulations to all those who performed.

At BIS, we are all ambitious learners. Last weekend, I attended the Regional Nord Anglia Conference, hosted by St Andrew’s International School, Bangkok. Craig Driver (Phase 3 Leader) and Adrian Duckett (IB Leader) delivered presentations about our initiatives to develop global citizenship at BIS Hanoi. These were well received by leaders from across our 12 NAE schools. It was equally useful for our team of 5 leaders from BIS to listen to others and learn about what is happening across our family of schools.

Next week is Science Week so I’m looking forward to joining students as they find out more first hand through stimulating investigations. I look forward to sharing experiences in our weekly news next week.
