Dear Parents,

It was my pleasure today to celebrate Term 2 achievements in the termly Principal’s Awards Assembly. The Year 2 children opened the assembly with a tuneful, jolly song from their recent production of Stella the Starfish which was performed to an audience of delighted parents on Thursday this week. The high quality of speaking in the production reflected our school’s focus on accurate, precise English and our mission for every student at BIS to be a confident communicator. The costumes in the production itself, the timing and quality of both solo performances and whole class songs was credit-worthy. Well done, Year 2 and congratulations to all the teachers and teaching assistants – you are all amazing!

Over the holidays, we have 4 Primary children (Sun Woo, Cam Tu, Tomohisa and Oliver) who are travelling to MIT University in Boston. They will be taking part in a STEAM collaboration alongside other children from our Nord Anglia Education schools. This is a truly unique opportunity and we wish them a fabulous adventure!

In today’s assembly, I reflected on a term of opportunities for children to take part in adventures and competitions outside of our school campus. Duke of Edinburgh Awards expeditions, MUN and Maths competitions, FOBISIA Games tournaments and, most recently, the Primary residential trips to Hoi An, Ba Vi and Cuc Phuong. I am always very proud to hear about our students’ conduct and attitude on such trips. Teachers and members of the public regularly comment on the respectful manner, good sportsmanship and ambitious attitude of our students.

I would like to finish by giving a special mention to our Year 13 students for whom today’s assembly was their last at BIS. Teachers have been very complimentary about their effort and dedication to the IB and to school life in general. I wish both the Year 13 and Year 11 students all the very best for the coming weeks as they take study leave in preparation for the IGCES and IBDP exams.

For the rest of our community, I wish you all a very happy holiday and look forward to welcoming you back for our Term 3 which will start on May 2nd.

Ms Sue Hill
