Dear Parents,

This week, I had the pleasure of meeting with the four primary students who had an extraordinary trip during the holidays and hearing first-hand about their adventure. Sun Woo, Cam Tu, Tomohisa and Oliver entered a STEAM competition which was open to Year 5 and 6 students earlier this year The prize was a trip to MIT University in Boston, to join with other Nord Anglia Education students for a series of workshops. The lucky teacher who accompanied the trip, Mr Peter Allison was extremely proud of our students. The BIS team of four represented our school admirably and engaged confidently with students of all ages. Our Aide Memoire skills of enquiry, perseverance and reflection were needed as teams worked together on problems solving tasks which really challenged understanding and reasoning. Read more about their adventures in the article here.

Theme weeks and days are special ways to bring learning to an extra dimension. Book Week activities from last week are celebrated by Ms Wilson in the article below. Scavenger hunts, Harry Potter Quiz, spooky Gothic Reading to Year 6, bringing to life recipes from favourite books and scrabble tournaments are just some of the many fun and challenging ways to encourage the immense pleasure which can be gained from books.

Following on from the Book Week, the Primary team held a special Maths Day this week which culminated in a Bake Off. Super fun and an effective way to relate Maths concepts to real life!

Enjoyable Assemblies today, the first of which reinforced our commitment to helping children to become confident and articulate communicators as the Year 6 children transported us back to times in the Victorian era and explained what life was like. The second assembly enabled Year 7 and 8 students to identify with their house teams as the closely battled quiz was fought. This was a welcome fun time for our KS3 children who have been involved in their summer tests all week.
