Community Service Term 3 2020

The end of the academic year is nearly upon us, despite the global difficulties we have all experienced in 2020, at BIS, we continue to show how much we care.

Upcycling

Our Friends of BIS parents have been getting together to continue with our fabulous upcycling program. After sorting out the old donated uniforms and purchasing 20 pillows, we have started to make pillowcases for the children of Hy Vong School. Utilising the dinosaur from our EYC uniform, I think you will all agree they are very cute.

On Wednesday, we went to visit Dragon House with some of our Year 12 students; this is the drop in centre for Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation. It is a wonderful opportunity to see the facilities and witness firsthand the work that they do. You cannot help but be moved to hear some of the success stories, in particular how Blue Dragon have been instrumental in making positive changes for the vulnerable children of Vietnam. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who donated toiletries during our Tet Appeal, which we were finally able to pass on to them.

I must give thanks to the parents of our EYC children, who donated new children’s clothing to Santa, when he visited them just before Christmas. We were able to give these to another of our community partners “School on the Boat’ who visited our Sixth Form students on Thursday. Their visit raised awareness of their commitment to helping disadvantaged children, living along the Red River and in Long Bien, gain access to education.

Hy Vong visit

The success of our Community Service program would not be possible without the help, commitment and enthusiasm of our parents, teachers and students. Embracing the opportunity to develop a caring sense of social responsibility towards other people, animals and the environment. Thank you all.
