BVIS HCMC Weekly Highlights 14/06/2019

Weekly Highlights 14/06/2019

Principal Update BVIS HCMC

Mr Simon Higham - Principal

Mr. Simon Higham, Principal

Dear Parents

Once again, Friday has come along very quickly after another very busy week at BVIS HCMC. In the Highlights this week, I would like to take the opportunity to give you information regarding how we have improved the school uniform for the next academic year and how this can be collected over the forthcoming holiday period.

Uniform Update

As always, we have been reflecting upon how we can improve our uniform provision. From the beginning of the next academic year, our school uniform will reflect the school’s new logo, that was introduced last August. In addition, we have also redesigned the PE shirt and shorts in new colours and improved lightweight fabric. This will also double up as the house T-Shirt.

BVIS HCMC Uniform PE 2019-2020

Please note that from the next academic year, your child will be issued with one PE/House T-Shirt and one pair of new shorts. All other amounts of uniform remain the same as in previous years.

Uniform - Collection Information

From Monday 5th August to Tuesday 20th August, your child’s new uniform for the forthcoming academic year will be able to be collected from the Uniform Shop between the following times:

  • 8.00 a.m. – 12.00 p.m.
  • 1.00 p.m. – 3.30 p.m.

Please note that I will be sending reminders to all parents via email and hard copy letter to help ensure that the collection details are both understood and followed.

Updated Swipe Cards – 2019/20

As part of our ongoing commitment to the safeguarding of all our students, and in line with school procedure, we regularly replace all swipe cards to ensure that the details on the front of each card are up to date. All new swipe cards will be available for collection from the Uniform Shop at the same time as when you collect your child’s new uniform.

In order for new cards to be issued, old cards must be handed back to school so that for security reasons, we can control the number of cards in circulation.

The updated designs for new swipe cards can be seen below:

BVIS HCMC Parents Cards Once collected, the new swipe cards can be used immediately. All old swipe cards will be deactivated from 21st August; therefore they will not be able to be used to gain access to the school site from the beginning of Term 1.

BVIS HCMC Parents New Cards 2019-2020

A newly updated lanyard and plastic wallet will also be issued with each swipe card. From the beginning of the new academic year, it is expected that all parents wear their lanyard and swipe card when entering the school. This will allow us to visually identify designated parents who are on site, by means of the blue lanyard.

All visitors to school will be issued with a Visitor’s badge and red lanyard and will always also be expected to wear this whilst in school.

Thank you for your continued support in ensuring that the safety of our children is the number one priority at BVIS HCMC. Please look out for further information and reminders about the collection of new uniform and swipe cards in the next edition of the Highlights and also in your email inboxes.

On behalf of all staff at BVIS, I would like to wish you all a very pleasant and peaceful weekend and look forward to seeing all of our Y13 graduates and their families at the Graduation event on Saturday.

Recognising sporting achievement at BVIS

This week we have been celebrating sporting achievement at BVIS. Firstly, on Monday we were able to congratulate one of our Year 6 students, Khanh Nhi in 6S, on her 3rd place in the BIS annual triathlon in Thao Dien last weekend. She was required to complete an exhausting 250m swim, 5km bike ride then a 1.5km run. This is an example of true perseverance and we are very proud of her!

BVIS HCMC Khanh Nhi Sports Achievement

On Thursday we then celebrated sporting achievement right across the school at our annual Sports Awards Evening. This is an event when we reflect upon the wide range of sports offered at BVIS and recognise the various squads that have trained week in and week out in order to represent BVIS Primary when competing against other international schools. Congratulations to them all, especially:

  • TRAN KHANH NHI (6S) for her Unsung Hero Award

  • PHAM ANH THANG (TONY) in 6S for being selected as Junior male Athlete of the Year.

F1 in School STEAM learning

On Friday 7th June Chau Minh Fifi (7i) Tran Bao Chi (Cindy) (7i), Ngo Cam Phong (7v), Phan Ngoc Khue (8v), and Pham Thuy An (Anna) 8I attended the F1 in schools even over at BIS.  They spent the morning learning about designing and making their own team car.  Racing against 9 other teams from around schools in Vietnam and Cambodia they managed to make it to the quarter finals.  However, the tenacious youngsters managed to decorate their Pit and take home first place for their dragon designs.  Having learned lots this year, we would hope to come on bigger and stronger for next year's competition.  Well done to all of them, their behavior and efforts were first class, showing off what great students we have at this school and thank you to Mr Walsh for orgainising this and helping the students to prepare.

Year 8 Shakespeare - Macbeth

One of the pleasures of my job is going into lessons and seeing the students enjoying their studies. It was particularly enjoyable this week to see our Year 8s performing Macbeth in their English lessons. Shakespearian English is difficult for even first language students to understand and all were doing an excellent job of bringing this play to life. Well done Year 8 and all of our English teachers for supporting their learning!
