Warm welcome to the new school year, 2019-2020 Country Day School

Dear CDS Families,

I wish to offer you a warm welcome to the new school year, 2019-2020, guaranteed to be an exciting year of continuous growth and success for our school.

We enjoyed welcoming 64 new families and 110 new students on Friday, spread across all the four houses (EC, ES, MS, HS) with the most, 38 students, starting in our EC.

Earlier in August, we welcomed 19 new teachers, all excellent educators from both overseas and Costa Rica. We’ve been working with them, and all our returning teachers, to get prepared for your children’s first day on August 19.

Over the break, we completed the first phase of an awning construction project that will better protect the hallways and stairs from rain. We completed the EC and ES and in phase two will do the MS and HS. The HS has a new courtyard (in place of the forum) and a new classroom for learning support, which allows us to expand the College Counseling office.

Early in this new year, we’ll restart our Middle States Association re-accreditation process by revising our mission, vision, values, and profile of a graduate—a process in which we’ll seek your feedback.

On the academic front, we have new tech classes in the HS (Computer Science) and MS (STEAM, Computational Thinking), a new secondary math program, a few new AP classes, and a 1:1 tech device program in the ES grades 1-5 (with iPads and Chromebooks).

We’re excited to get started with our new year and look forward to teaming with you to make this your child’s best year ever.

Best regards,

Dr. Scott Adams
