Nord Anglia School Jakarta serves a population of students from over 20 different cultural, national and linguistic backgrounds. In order to meet the individual needs of those young learners who do not speak English as a first language, NAS Jakarta offers extensive English as an Additional Language (EAL) support services for students.

Through our programme, English language learners are able to acquire the required level of English needed to communicate effectively both in the classroom and within social situations. The goal is to have children feeling confident and safe with their second language. EAL support is provided for students from the earliest years of Primary School.
Current research indicates that immersion with support accelerates the rate of additional language acquisition; it also allows the EAL student to feel included and to contribute in the regular classroom.
Our systems have been established by a teacher with qualifications in language learning, emphasising In-Class learning for students that require additional assistance. An example of the structure could be where students may be reading a chapter book in class. The EAL teacher will take students out of the class to read a simple picture book that is more appropriate for their level, advancing their language skills.
