Early Years Teacher

Esther Coumans started to teach in the Netherlands before her career took her to South-Africa and later to Jakarta as a teacher.

Esther is a graduate of the Pedagogische Akademie Basisonderwijs Heerlen in the Netherlands. She obtained the diplomas Akte van Bekwaamheid als Leidster bij het Kleuteronderwijs. (teaching credential for pre-primary education), Akte van Bekwaamheid als Hoofdleidster bij het Kleuteronderwijs (teaching credential als headmistress of a pre-primary) and volledig bevoegd onderwijzeres (to teach in all 8 classes of primary education).

After working for seven years as a teacher in pre-primary group 1&2 in the Netherlands, Esther worked for the Stichting Nederlands Onderwijs & Cultuur in South- Africa. She gave Dutch lessons in Johannesburg and Pretoria until 2001 when she moved to Jakarta. Her commitment to education and challenging children’s development is still just as fresh now as it was when she started 16 years ago.

Esther is married and has three children. All her children started at NAS Jakarta and finished this school. In her spare time she enjoys swimming, reading and heading to the gym.
