This week I had a lovely conversation with Thuy Linh in Year 13 whilst I was welcoming the students at the school gates. She was very excited as she explained that she had been offered a place at a university in Boston, USA. Furthermore, the university had awarded her a scholarship. Thuy Linh is just one of several of our highly successful Year 13 students who will study in the USA after graduating from Brisith International School Hanoi.

High Schools in the USA

We are currently supporting a small number of BIS Hanoi students from Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, who have chosen to apply to high schools in the USA. We know that some parents are concerned about whether the transition from BIS to a US high school will be an easy one so here are a few words that will help ease any concerns you have.

Firstly, our school is happy and willing to support the choices that you make for your children. Of course, we have complete faith in our school to support the successful transition from BIS to US university experienced by Thuy Linh above; however, if parents need to move their children to another high school, we will give them our full support during the application process.

How British International School Hanoi can help?

We have staff who have supported applications to schools around the world.  Please seek our guidance and advice.

At the end of Key Stage 3, BIS pupils have studied a British national curriculum that is recognised throughout the world for its rigour and development of core skills.

At the end of Key Stage 4, BIS pupils have completed internationally recognised qualifications (Cambridge IGCSE) that help prospective schools understand the academic ability of your child.

At British International School Hanoi we promote extracurricular activities that help your child evidence their character and this strengthens their application.

Why the British International School Hanoi reference is respected by other schools?

As part of the application process, our school provides a very detailed student reference. It accurately reflects a student’s ability, skills and character and is structured in a way that admissions officers understand and find helpful.

As one admissions’ officer wrote of our reference:

“We are happy to accept a letter of recommendation as described in your message. I understand the difficulty of trying to match the information with the standard recommendations, and your information will likely provide better, more relevant data.” Cushing School, USA.

It is hard to say goodbye

We want all of our students to stay with us and graduate from British International School Hanoi in Year 13. We want them to be another BIS success story just like Thuy Linh and her friends. However, please be assured that should your family ever have to leave British International School Hanoi for another school, you will have our full support.
