Embracing global opportunity at BIS

Dear Parents,

Next Wednesday is an important date for our BIS calendar as we celebrate the 30-year anniversary of the Convention of the Rights of a Child. On World Children’s Day, we ask all our school community to wear blue, the UNICEF colour, to mark the occasion. Various activities will be happening to reinforce the link between the Global Goals and the Convention, and students are encouraged to have a voice.

This weekend 14 students from BIS will join with students from UNIS to work in partnership with UNICEF. Our students will be leading teams of children from local schools in order to voice opinions about ways of improving the lives of children here in Vietnam. I am looking forward to hearing the outcomes of the weekend and seeing the impact of the collaboration.

Juilliard Drama Specialist

Drama has been a curriculum focus this week as we welcomed Stephanie Cunningham, our visiting specialist for the Juilliard curriculum. Stephanie observed lessons led by our own Performing Arts department and taught showcase lessons for our teachers to observe. Stephanie’s feedback was very positive both about the quality of our teachers and the delivery of a bespoke curriculum. We look forward to welcoming Stephanie back later this academic year.

Our students are travelling back from Phuket as I write, following another very successful FOBISIA (Federation of British International Schools in Asia) Games. Once again, our students have shown incredible sportsmanship whilst achieving a plethora of medals.

Our Students visit to Yale University

On Monday, we will also be welcoming Quynh Anh, Bao Linh and Kim Ngan back from their trip to Yale University. The final of the World Scholars Cup, known as The Tournament of Champions, provides an amazing global opportunity to meet others, find out more about university life and participate in the challenge of competing against the finalists from all the regional teams. I have already heard about their incredible achievements of 3 gold and 9 silver medals and can’t wait to hear more!

Our parents are once again astonishing us with their talents. Following the very successful upcycling of school uniforms project, the school sewing machines have sprung into life once more. This time, the focus is on the creation of costumes for the upcoming production, Elf.

As a thank you for all the hard work and enthusiasm shown by our parents, we are holding a celebratory afternoon tea party on Thursday.
