IBDP Gala Showcase 08 Apr

An incredible week at BIS Hanoi

I’m sitting in my office this morning, feeling so proud of our students, that I can’t stop smiling! It has been an incredible week, one in which we have seen the very best of our students and a glimpse of their future selves.

Yesterday, I spent the morning with Mr. Airdrie and Ha Minh, our Head Girl, in my office, while in another part of the school Mr. Webb was with Mrs. Carroll and Nacho, our Head Boy. We had the delightful task of interviewing our Year 12 students who have put themselves forward for the positions of Head Students next year. What a very impressive group of students they were, confidently and eloquently sharing their thoughts and ideas about how they could develop the Head Student role and work with other students to bring further improvements to our school. Later this morning we have the almost impossible task of selecting two of these students to take on the positions. Next week I shall inform you of the outcome of our deliberations.

Later in the afternoon yesterday, we held the annual Gala Showcase. This is an important event for the Year 11 and 13 Art and Music students, as it both counts towards their exam grades and celebrates their achievements. The Year 13 IB Art students had spent the past couple of weeks preparing and curating their displays. The finished exhibition demonstrated the level of creativity and technical ability which our students have achieved. There were many stunning pieces of art, each one annotated with the artist’s concepts behind the finished piece.

Following the art exhibition, our Year 11 IGCSE and Year 13 IB musicians performed in a concert which was both varied and polished. From Chopin and Beethoven, through Lennon and McCartney, to traditional Vietnamese compositions, our students showed their musical passion and talent to a very appreciative audience. These recitals were recorded and will be submitted to the examining boards in due course.

MUFTI Pride day 09 Apr

Today, our Secondary students have come to school dressed in rainbow colours, to show their solidarity and support for LGBTQ+ issues. We are proud that our students celebrate diversity and support equality for all groups of people and sections of the community, with open minds and hearts. Our students of today are the global citizens of tomorrow when we hope to see a world of greater tolerance and understanding. Well done BIS students, you have made us all proud this week!
