Message from the Principal

Dear Parents,

I am pleased to share updates with you today as my colleagues are returning to the city.  As you know we are committed to putting the very best educators in front of your children, the most experienced and qualified staff to help our students in their learning journeys.  The Nord Anglia recruitment philosophy, embraced by ourselves here at Léman, is based on hiring outstanding teachers for outstanding schools, and to ensure that they are effectively supported to allow your child to achieve more than they thought possible.  We believe the teachers we have are the best people to work with our students, and that is why we haven't hired any short term, temporary or supply teachers to fill in.  Our blended virtual approach, alongside our tireless efforts to bring our teachers back to Chengdu, has enabled us to ensure we can meet our high standards.

We have teachers who have returned from Canada, Australia and Thailand, now in quarantine and ready to leave their hotels, with teachers arriving this weekend from the UK and Thailand.  We are booking flights for colleagues in the USA and South Africa, and we are confident that we will be almost as planned by the end of the National October holiday - indeed, teachers will return before in some cases.

In order to provide continuity and transition for the students, we will keep our classes as they currently are until we start back on October 12th.  The plan for staffing is attached with this week’s newsletter - we don’t anticipate it to change much, and hope all goes well.  Our website also includes details of all of our teaching staff, so feel free to visit Our Staff page to put a face to a name and to find out a little more.  We will share details of which students are in each class once more of our families overseas have returned, but be assured you will have this in plenty of time.

We have also finalised the reporting and meeting dates for this year, also attached with this newsletter, and of course we will send reminders nearer the time.  The first of these is our virtual Meet the Teacher event next week, please watch out for details of when and how to attend.  These initial meetings will be recorded and shared for those unable to attend live - a benefit of hosting virtual meetings, allowing more access at convenient times, meaning less people miss out on vital information.

I watched both Primary assemblies today, as 1A discussed their learning and how they are getting to know each other through their IPC unit.  Year 4 also presented the highlights of their first few weeks back and what their IPC learning has covered.  More stars in Lower Primary this week, well done to Alicia, Ellie, Tim and Bert - see the attached for our proud stars with their certificates.  It is important that we share the successes of our children, and recognise their achievements.  This encouragement and praise encourages us all to do better!  During our Secondary assembly this week students share their project topics and why they were important - I was impressed with their range of ideas and reasons.

Please do the registration of the LFA Coffee Morning at Sep 17.

Have a great weekend,

Tom Ferguson
Principal
