The Magic Toymaker
One day, we entered the “Magic Toymaker” workshop using a magic key. There was a magic toy display and three wrapped boxes waiting for the students.
What’s inside the box, you ask?
Why, this is your special task!
A toy, a toy for you to find.
But remember, you’ll have to use your mind?
As one student opened the box, everyone was surprised to find the box full of junk. Questions were asked: How can this be a toy? What are we supposed to do with this junk? The students became very excited when they found out they could create a toy from the materials in each box. They worked in groups and had a grand time creating their toys. Throughout the unit, students learned about the past and present toys, brought in their favorite toy, planned and created their own toy and wrote about their experiences all along the way! To conclude our unit, we read and enjoyed the story “Corduroy” by Don Freeman. Throughout the story, Corduroy goes on an adventure until he is purchased by a little girl named Lisa. Students got a chance to take Corduroy home and share their adventures with others. Please enjoy a snit bit of their fun.
