What is Regents EAL programme model and approach?
The EAL programme recognizes that:

The speed at which a language is learned depends on time and intensity of study

Accelerated language learning requires EAL students receive significant and extended opportunities for authentic language production and feedback throughout their school day- both within the EAL-specific classroom and the year level classroom

The primary opportunity for EAL students to learn English is in an authentic and inclusive setting is the year level classroom

Targeted EAL support in an EAL specific classroom supports accelerated English language learning

How does the Primary EAL programme meet students’ needs?

The student programme elements are:

EAL students receive daily targeted EAL classes focused on language fundamentals, and oral language production

EAL students receive 5 periods per week of levelled phonics support
-
EAL students receive targeted small group reading support 5 periods per week

EAL students receive support with the goal of supporting year level learning and language learning opportunities

EAL students receive differentiated academic tasks and assessments across the curriculum to support maximized performance
-
EAL students receive multiple opportunities to learn, practice, and produce English in the year level classroom based on authentic communication opportunities
Parent programme elements:

Personalized reports on students’ progress towards language proficiency goal

Regular Parent meetings re: EAL parent workshops in English, Thai, and Chinese
