ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME

We offer scholarships to outstanding students aged 6-18 who excel academically, creatively and personally.

Scholarships are awarded to outstanding students who wish to pursue an innovative international education and be part of our dynamic MET community.

Applicants will be expected to be able to show strong academic ability or potential. More significantly, however, they should also show a certain flair and independence of mind. They should be engaged, curious, self-reliant and willing to take the initiative.

We welcome applications from any student who is entering grades Grade 1 - Grade 11, whether currently attending or not attending the Metropolitan School of Panama. 

WHAT SHOULD i know about the scholarship?

  • Students should meet the following criteria:
    - Are aged 6-18 years old (Grades 1 - 11).
    - Have achieved academic excellence at their current school.
    - Are curious, engaged, self-reliant, enjoy a challenge, and show initiative and resilience.
    - Are well regarded by students and faculty of their current school / MET
    - Exemplify the IB Learner Profile.
    - Demonstrate intellectual curiosity and independent thinking.
    - Are respectful of other views.
    - Demonstrate outstanding academic, arts, and/or sporting achievement.
    - Are determined to make a difference in the world.
    - Are excellent communicators.
    - Have a ‘growth mindset.’

    Scholarships will be awarded to students who demonstrate the capabilities to navigate our rigorous curriculum's demands and make a positive contribution to school life.

    Successful candidates must maintain a high level of achievement and engagement throughout their time at the Metropolitan School of Panama.
  • This sounds great, what do I do next?
    If your child meets the scholarship requirements above, please:

    1. Download and complete the application form (at the bottom of this page)
    2. Your child will need to write an 800-word motivation letter to accompany the application. The candidate should introduce themself, their future ambitions, why they feel they would benefit from the program, what they believe they will bring to the school, and any extracurricular involvement. Please address the letter to our Head of School, Dr. Mark Starbuck, and Director of Admissions and Marketing, Mrs. Alison Donnelly.
    3. Collect your child's school reports from the past two years.
    4. Obtain 2 reference letters: one from an academic subject teacher and a further recommendation letter from a non-academic subject teacher, counselor, or community member.
    5. Provide family financial information to confirm that the student meets the criteria to apply for this scholarship program.
    6. Include any additional recognition the student wishes to share with the MET Scholarship Committee (e.g., video of performance, certificates).
    7. Email (all the above in one single email) to the Scholarship Committee at scholarship@themetropolitanschool.com. Any incomplete applications will not be considered.

    *Applications are reviewed per trimester.
  • What happens next?
    1. You'll receive an email confirming receipt of your application.
    2. The Scholarship Committee will review your documents and contact your references.
    3. Documents will be kept on our database for a maximum of one year (to comply with GDPR, we'll delete these records after 12 months).
    4. Our Senior Academic Team and the Scholarship Committee will evaluate the top candidates. They will be invited to an interview. Unsuccessful candidates will be informed by email.
    5. We'll let you know the outcome of the interview within ten working days.
    6. If successful, our Admissions Team will get in touch to congratulate you and then guide you through our admissions process.
